Velvet is an old pro at kidding and knows what's about to happen. . . she looks over to Reba's kidding stall and begs for help. . .
Here she's just had a strong contraction and was licking her teats to get the wax build up out of there for her arriving babies.
You can see Velvet's top hind leg is stretched straight out as she works through her contraction.
After what seemed like forever finally Velvet got down to business. You can tell that's a foot!!!
she decides to stand up to finish. I caught this baby, which is why there are no more photos!!
Baby Disco Rey is here! Unfortunately I had to pull out after an hour of waiting, the other kid. He was still born, it appeared to me that his umbilical cord had been severed maybe a week or two before his birth. But Disco was alive and well and a whopping 11lbs!!!
Velvet was in love with her baby immediately! So much so I had to protect him from her! While it is great to have a doe so determined to get her kids to eat, I was so worried she was going to kill him!
He would scream and scream from the rough house treatment, I had to stay out with her for a few hours to just watch and make sure she didn't hit him too hard! After the first night she left him alone and has been an excellent mom for me yet again! Poor Disco!!
